BASS JUNKYZ EVENT 1 2022 - 2023 ROOSEVELT LAKE, 11/19/2022

November 19, 2022 – Saturday

Bass Junkyz Returns to Action!

With Bass Junkyz returning to their format roots since 2016 as team circuit kicking off their season at Roosevelt Lake, those watching from above granted a textbook day of Arizona sunshine. The wind remained calm at around 2mph through the event and temperatures rose up to 71°. As expected, the field of anglers was smaller than historic numbers, but the early rewards for the anglers were great. With the contributions of sponsors anglers were presented with bags during registration and launch assignments. Several of the anglers utilized the insulated 22oz tumblers in the bags for their morning coffee.

As the SOP reads for Bass Junkyz the morning starts with prayer, moves to the National Anthem, and the anticipated call for Boat #1 to blast off. Boat flights are broken into segments at intervals of 15 requiring the first flight to return at 3:00PM and each subsequent flight 15 minutes later (3:00, 3:15, 3:30, …) Three flights were called and the anglers were dispatched across the lake.

With some anglers in the field participating in more than one event hosted at the lake, a few considerations were made with the weigh-in. With the cooperation of another organization, Let's Talk Fishing, and agreed-upon logistics, a few teams arrived at the Bass Junkyz scale early at 2:30. As the weigh-in drive-thru queue began to see a higher flow of traffic the competition began to separate and define the leaders in bag weights and the Big Fish category. Bass Junkyz' pay structure is a 1-6 ratio and pays three positions for Big Fish. There are other random giveaways at the end of the event while results are announced.

Sponsors gifted the anglers with items such as the Accu-Cull Digital Waterproof Scale, Arizona Custom Baits focused on Arizona waters, and Falcon Rods named as such for the development around the storied Texas destination, Falcon Lake. For all of the Bass Junkyz sponsors, I encourage you to go to our website, click the sponsor logo, shop, or find the local retailer that handles the products you seek. I would strongly recommend shopping locally at either Copperstate Tackle in Chandler or Phoenix Fishing Supply in Phoenix.

A few teams arrived at the check-in to drop off their boat cards announcing themselves as “Conservationists” for the day and that they had already returned their catch to the lake before the boat was trailered to come off of the water. As mentioned before, Bass Junkyz is a 1 to 6 payout ratio. First out of the money, in 6th place with 11.79 the team of Bynum/Pugh walking away with a new Falcon Rod each. In 5th place, the team of Spencer/Nay weighed in at 12.43lbs for the event and took home $678.00. In 4th place the team of Mathews/Goettl weighed in at 12.83lbs, taking home $753.00, and also the Arizona Custom Baits winners. In 3rd place was the team of Lynch/Johnson weighing in at 13.66lbs and in 2nd place Big Fish (5.77lbs) taking home $1,016. In 2nd place, the team of Furmaneck/Kettner weighed in at 14.92lbs, and 3rd place Big Fish (4.91lbs) $1,882. Closing the door on the competition, the 1st place team of Reynoso/Avalos with 19.08 and 1st place Big Fish (6.58lbs) took home $3,575.00. The win also assures the team of Reynoso/Avalos qualification for the Bass Junkyz Championship.

The Bass Junkyz Team would like to thank USDA Forest Service – Tonto for working with us for the use permit, our sponsors who contribute to enhancing the angler experience while participating with Bass Junkyz, and the anglers who participate and are now 2022-2023 members. A very special thanks go to WWBT Paul Hodges and Seth Starks for assisting with an equipment failure on the Bass Junkyz Recovery and Release Boat. Fish care and conservation are at the center of what we do.

Members, please watch for announcements regarding existing and new sponsors, local walk-in discounts, and online discount codes.

Take it to the lake, have a great day on the water, and keep feeding the addiction. – Bass Junkyz
